Switches and actuation
The G Pro X Keyboard is sold with three switch options: GX Blue Clicky, GX Brown Tactile and GX Red Linear. Each one feels different when you type and game on it.
- GX Blue Clicky: a tactile bump with an audible click. It gives the most feedback, and it is also the loudest.
- GX Brown Tactile: a bump without the click. It is a middle ground between feedback and noise.
- GX Red Linear: a smooth press with no bump and no click, so each press feels uninterrupted.
The PCB is hotswappable, which is the most interesting part of this board for a hobbyist. You can change the switches without soldering, so the three stock options are a starting point and not a permanent choice. If you are unsure which feel you like, you can try one type and swap later.
Compare that with the alternatives. The G715 offers the same three switch types but is not hotswappable. The G Pro X TKL RAPID uses optical switches and is not hotswappable either. The G915 TKL Carbon uses low-profile GL switches (Clicky, Tactile and Linear) and is not hotswappable.
Should you buy supr's keyboard?
The G Pro X Keyboard is a TKL, so it drops the number pad and keeps the main keys, arrows and function row. It is a good fit if you play Rainbow Six Siege or other shooters and want a compact board that still has a full set of keys. It is also a good pick if you like to experiment with switches, since the hotswappable PCB lets you change the feel later. It is available to buy now.
Here is what the alternatives trade off:
- Logitech G Pro X TKL RAPID Black: 30 g lighter, 0.5 cm shorter and 0.3 cm narrower, but 0.3 cm taller. It uses optical switches and gives up hotswapping.
- Logitech G715: 5 g lighter, 0.2 cm longer, 1 cm wider and 0.3 cm taller. It has the same three switch types, but you cannot swap them.
- Logitech G915 TKL Carbon: 166 g lighter, 0.4 cm shorter, 0.7 cm wider and 1.6 cm lower. It is a low-profile board with GL switches, and it is not hotswappable.
Choose the G Pro X Keyboard if you want to change switches later. Look at the G915 TKL Carbon if a much lower, lighter board matters more to you. The G Pro X TKL RAPID is the option if you want optical switches in a slightly smaller footprint.
